Congratulations! IFCH is Officially a Level III Trauma Center
Idaho Falls Community Hospital is officially a Level III Trauma Center. We are incredibly proud of all of your hard work. We never would have been able to achieve this certification from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare without the tremendous efforts from this team. Congratulations!
Idaho Falls Community Hospital opened a little more than two years ago. It is remarkable we have been able to earn our Level III trauma certification in such a short amount of time and a testament to this team’s commitment to provide our community with exceptional emergency care.
Being a Level III Trauma Center means our team has proven our ability to provide our community with prompt, lifesaving care. The designation also means our hospital is able to treat more critical patients and, as a result, we will likely see more patients come to us from EMS.
Our new trauma designation requires us to always have emergency physicians at the hospital to care for the community. And surgeons and anesthesiologists must always be available to respond to emergencies.
We would like to give a special thanks to Dr. O’Byrne and the TSE team at Idaho Falls Community Falls for all of their work over the last year on achieving our new trauma certification. During the site visit, the team received many compliments for their efforts from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
We are currently working on our Level II Stroke and Level I STEMI Center designations. We anticipate the certification process for those two designations will take approximately another year.

A.C.E. Award Nominations
Dr. Charles Ivester, Lorrienne Thedell RN/ICU, Marianne Nelson RN/ICU, Wesley Elliot RN/ICU, Jeremy Thurgood, RT—All IFCH
I would like to nominate the following people for their compassionate care while a patient of ours was nearing end of life. Comfort care was started and present at the patient’s bedside was Dr. Ivester, Marianne Nelson RN Charge, Lorrienne Thedell RN patient’s assigned nurse, Wesley Elliott RN, and Jeremy Thurgood RT.
As they withdrew care the patient had a guitar in the room with a note attached that said, “please play me.” Wes played a couple of songs on patient’s guitar. Dr. Ivester played songs from Beach Boys on his cell phone and placed it close to the patient while there were some breaks in playing the guitar. Lorrienne and Mari held the patient’s hands while passing peacefully, and Jeremy extubated and cleaned up the patient.
Tyson Edward RT came in and also played some songs on patient’s guitar while post-mortem was given and then played a few more songs afterwards. I was very impressed with the huge amount of compassion shown by our staff as they stayed by the patient’s side during this patients’ final moments.
