A.C.E. Award Nominations

1. Trevor Daw—WINNER!

IFCH Surgery/OR Dept. CNA

Nomination 1: I would like to nominate Trevor Daw of the surgical department for the ACE Award. He stays busy, is efficient, and goes above and beyond expectations when completing tasks. He is always looking out for the other members of the team by making sure we have everything we need and jumping in to help whenever he sees an opportunity. He is truly a team player, and our whole department benefits from his hard work and dedication.

Nomination 2: I would like to nominate Trevor Daw of the surgical department for this month's ACE award. Trevor ensures every department within surgery (pre op, OR, and PACU) is running smoothly, which is no easy task. Each department within surgery is different and demands a different type of help at different times. No matter how stressful the day is he makes sure everything is stocked appropriately, patients are taken care of, and the nurses have the support they need. He makes the days better when he is working. On his days off it is regular to hear "If only Trevor were here, he would know, or if only Trevor were here to help." I personally work in the OR and every time Trevor is staffed, I don't have to worry about the little things, he is always 5 steps ahead and makes my day run so smoothly, which allows me to take better care of my patients. I appreciate the staff. Trevor is also incredibly personable with patients. I often hear him taking the time to engage in conversations with the patients and he is always making sure their family is informed and comfortable while their loved one is in surgery. He is constantly asking how he can improve, takes on additional responsibilities willingly and rarely complains. I am so grateful to have a co-worker like Trevor. I would love for him to be recognized for all the hard work he does because it is noticed by many. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO TREVOR!!! You will make an INCREDIBLE nurse someday!

2. Carol Jones—RUNNER-UP!

IFCH ED RN

I would like to nominate Carol Jones of the Emergency Dept. Carol volunteered to come in on 1/25/2022 and manage the 11 med/Surg holds that were being boarded in the ER knowing, full well, that she would be buried in work. Her selflessness allowed the ER to maintain some semblance of functionality.

3. Kathi Gilman

IFCH Surgery/OR Dept. RN

I would like to nominate Kathi Gilman of the IFCH OR. Kathi is the most supportive RN on the unit. She is always helping others, keeping a positive attitude when the day has given a million reasons to be grumpy and she has already filled spots when they're needed. Even though she is an OR nurse she is willing to also help in Preop/PACU. This is double the load and I don't think she always gets the recognition she deserves. She is an OUTSTANDING nurse and the best teammate.

Kathi has been helping to train me as a new hire on top of picking up a ton of extra shifts. We have been short staffed with COVID as well as recent employee turnover. She has also had exhausting on call shifts that have kept her at the hospital a ton. The other night she stayed until 21:30 even though she wasn’t the 1 call circulating nurse scheduled. Moreover, she has also taken on the role of being 1 of 2 circulators that is trained and helps train on a new CT scan machine that’s quite complicated. It’s a big role that she willingly took on with a smile on her face.

4. Meghan Gneiting

IFCH Surgery/OR Dept. Scrub Tech Level II

I would like to nominate Meghan Gneiting of the IFCH surgical department. Meghan is so deserving of this award because she is always going above and beyond. She is the first-person to jump in when I need a hand. She always has a smile on her face, and it is so hard to be grumpy or be in a bad mood when you work with her. Meghan is the kindest, sweetest person I know. Last night (1/19/2022), she volunteered to be the 2nd call for surgery, she also went through the cabinets in the OR's and reorganized them. Took out the expired things, and she made an inventory list of what goes in the cabinets.

5. Elizabeth Douglas

IFCH Surgery/OR Dept. RN

Hello! I would like to nominate Liz Douglas in the IFCH OR for the ACE award this month! She is a ROCKSTAR, always on top of her stuff and willing to help anyone else out at a moment's notice. Plus, she has had I swear every GI bleed patient the last couple of weeks and has waded through a bunch of Code Brown's with literally no complaints. She has always been incredibly kind to me since I started here and that takes effort and courage. She is amazing.

6. Anna Walter

IFCH Medical Imaging/Cardiology Ultrasonographer

I would like to nominate Anna Walter from our ECHO team. Anna recently responded to an after-hour call-back to the NICU, while scanning she quickly identified a serious matter and prompted the nurses to initiate contact with the Pediatric Cardiologist to speed up the reading and the critical care of the neonate. Her quick actions facilitated the STAT needs of the patient for intervention and surgery. This seems routine for ECHO techs with STAT procedures, but the amount of training and diversity requested of the ECHO dept. over the last year has expanded greatly. The ECHO team covers all the ECHO needs at IFCH on a 24/7 basis and in the last several months now covers all the inpatient needs at MVH covering the floors and for the new NICU on a 24/7 basis. To prepare for pediatric and neonatal ECHO procedures all the staff are taking extra training courses in pediatric ECHO to increase their capabilities to perform studies on all age ranges and to support the services from IFCH and MVH. They are also currently working towards support of the new IFCH Pediatric Cardiology Clinic with Primary Children’s. Lots of kudos to the team for expanding their capabilities, education, and training to cover the hospitals and various service lines with echocardiology needs. The whole team has risen to the challenge and performed marvelously with the training and education.

7. Anita Yanez - SHOUT OUT!

MVH Housekeeping

I would like to nominate the day shift housekeeper Anita Yanez for the Ace award. In our emergency room we are swamped on a 24/7 basis. We have numerous Covid positive, flu and RSV patients. After EVERY one of these patients are discharged a terminal clean is required which involves washing the walls, equipment, bed, floor, monitors etc. It is exhausting and hard work. Anita does these terminal cleanings multiple times in all the rooms her entire shift. Anita is cheerful EVERY time. She is quick to answer our pages, drops anything she is doing and comes running to help--and still has her regular required things to do. She has an adorable sense of humor and takes our merciless teasing. She goes above and beyond every shift she works. She jumps in to help us strip and clean rooms between regular patients. I just can't brag about her enough. She is loved by all of us, and she is humble and does not like attention or compliments that is why we tease her -to show her we love her. I have never seen a harder worker!!
