Quote of the Month

“I learned this, at least, by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”

A.C.E. Award Nominations

1. Tracy Cox—WINNER!

Security

I'd like to nominate Tracy, Security for the ACE Award. She is an amazing presence in our hospital. She is always ready and willing to step up and go above and beyond to help the hospital. I have seen her in the ER cleaning rooms and stripping beds when things get busy. On multiple occasions she has taken patients home or to another facility when they do not have a ride or are unable to get where they need to go. I have seen her comforting patients and family members with great compassion. On the opposite side I have seen her fiercely protect staff from unruly and belligerent people when the need arises. She is always willing to go the extra mile with whatever needs to be done. Also, she is just genuinely a lovely person, always ready with a quick smile and a joke, someone always enjoyable to be around.

2. Katie Rohlfs—RUNNER-UP!

IFCH Surgery Dept.

I must tell you about a UNICORN that works in the surgery department! Katie R. is that unicorn! First, she volunteered to do all the weekend shifts (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) which helps her co-workers a ton. She also volunteers to pick up almost all the second call shifts. I looked at October’s schedule. There is a total of 21 available second call shifts. Katie picked up 12 of the 21 shifts voluntarily! That is more than half.  Katie is such a great co-worker. She is always willing to help anyone whether that be in Preop or surgery. Every time we have a patient go back to the OR she accompanies the patient and helps the OR shift any way she can. Not all nurse do this.

Furthermore, on the weekends as many know they can be busy sometimes and sometimes not at all. Recently I found out that when the surgery department isn't busy Katie goes over to the ER and helps them out. No one told her to go over there and help, she just did it. She of course makes sure that all her stuff is done before going headed over there.  She will be over there for hours helping with whatever they need.  Katie is seriously so amazing.

Katie is also willing to cross-train in the OR.  Katie is just one of those people that shines and is a model employee. She works so hard to get patients ready for surgery, she is very through, and she is a great advocate to her patients. I think Katie is a little discouraged right now and I just want her to know how much she is needed in our department and our hospital. She is a huge asset to this hospital, and I hope we can help remind her how truly amazing and replaceable she is!

A.C.E. Award Nominations

December 2022

1. Randy Flegel—WINNER!

Christina Schuijt – IFCH ED Clinical Team Lead/RN would like to nominate:

Randy Flegel, IFCH Security Dept. Advanced Security Officer!

The ED received a patient by ambulance who had children that needed to be cared for, which created a highly difficult situation. I was busy managing the ED & the primary nurse was busy with patients. Randy immediately stepped in, giving his attention to the children. He took them into his office where he put on a video, gave them coloring books & snacks. He kept them entertained & happy while their parent was being cared for & other arrangements were made for the children. Randy always does his job 100%, but he truly went above & beyond in this scenario.

2. Katie Arehart—RUNNER-UP!

Jeremy Killpack – IFCH Surgical Services Manager would like to nominate:

Katie Arehart, IFCH Surgery Dept. Clinical Team Lead/R.N.!

Katie is one of the most engaged employees. She is always willing to take on any extra assignments & tasks to help the department. Katie is one of those charge nurses/clinical team leads who it doesn’t matter how busy the department is, you know it is going to be a good day. She really sees the whole picture. Frequently, Katie stays past her shift to help out the team without being asked, or without complaint. I truly mean this when I say it, but I couldn’t do this without Katie.

Nominees:

Chantelle Hurd - IFCH Resource Nurse would like to nominate:
Courtney KovachFulton, IFCH Emergency Dept., C.N.A./Unit Secretary!

The Emergency Department had a patient with some hard behavioral issues & ended up staying in the ED for several days. Courtney was always right by the patients side to help the nurse give any cares to this patient. Courtney took the time to communicate with patient, so they would understand what needed to be done. She helped the patients behavior improve & helped the patient to be more cooperative with the cares that needed to be done. Courtney went above & beyond to help this patient have a much better stay in the ED.

Debra Pickett – IFCH Nutritional Services Manager would like to nominate:
Britni Eddy, Nutrition Tech!

We had a patient who was here for a couple of weeks who had several diet order changes during their stay which was confusing for the patient. The patient also had diabetes & difficulties counting carbohydrates. Britni spent extra time assisting this patient with placing appropriate meal orders. The patient mentioned to the visiting Registered Dietitian how much she appreciated the extra care that she received from Britni in the diet office & how nice & pleasant she was while the patient was going through a difficult time.

Tina Sanders – IFCH Med/Surg C.N.A./Unit Secretary would like to nominate:
Kalani Yancey, also IFCH Med/Surg C.N.A. /Unit Secretary!

Kalani is outstanding when I work with her. She’s always upbeat & positive, is always asking & willing to help out in whatever job needs to be done, whether its rolling a patient in a bed to get an x-ray or just helping them walk around the floor to get out of bed. She always goes above & beyond for patients & co-workers helping with bed alarms & anything she is asked. I think Kalani Yancey is the best to be nominated.

Kristine Johnson – IFCH Med/Surg L.P.N. would like to nominate:
Laura Sandoval, IFCH Med/Surg R.N.!

Laura is always available to help whether she is a resource nurse or not. She is very patient with all the new grads & takes the extra time to make us feel comfortable & welcome. When I do ask her a question, she always follows up to make sure I understand, & that I feel comfortable with whatever situation I'm in. My patients have also mentioned how kind she is when she comes in to assist me & that they also feel comfortable with her. I have learned so much from Laura & feel that she goes above & beyond to help all the nurses on our floor to become the nurses she knows we can be.

Alexandra Eddington – IFCH Med/Surg R.N. would like to nominate:
Laura Sandoval, IFCH Med/Surg R.N.!

Laura is amazing, down to earth, always willing to teach & help others (even if it's not her responsibility), & she just shares a wealth of knowledge with anybody who needs help without being condescending. I'm so sad to see her go and I just really think she deserves that nomination!

Jeffery Barbosa – IFCH Med/Surg R.N. would like to nominate:
Taylor Olive, IFCH Med/Surg L.P.N.!

Taylor routinely goes above & beyond for our patients & is a great asset to the team. Just today I asked Taylor to speak with a patient of mine that was having a lot of anxiety over the decision to start hospice. Taylor not only agreed to speak with my patient, but she also returned a second time to speak with the patients family as well. Taylor is one of the most compassionate & focused nurse on this floor & deserves recognition.

Laura Sandoval – IFCH Med/Surg R.N. would like to nominate:
Annalicia Reyes, IFCH Med/Surg Clinical Team Lead/R.N.!

Annalicia always goes above & beyond to help her coworkers even when she has her own full load of patients. She is someone I can go to & ask for help without judgment.
