Message from Administration
March was definitely an interesting month. Unfortunately it saw a return of COVID patients in force to IFCH. While the pandemic did partial derail our attempts to mature a newly opened hospital it couldn’t stop the efforts and a LOT of amazing things happened during the month as well.
We were able to see all time high numbers for:
- Emergency Room daily visits (61),
- Emergency Medical Service transports to us in one day (14),
- Med/Surg patient days (48 for a daily high 1,074 total for the month!)
- CT daily exams (37)
- X-ray daily exams (55)
We also had record numbers of patient meal trays prepared by our Nutritional Services team. They prepared 243 trays in one day and over 5,600 for the month!
March also had a large number of “firsts” for us. 1st Craniotomy, 1st Shockwave Coronary Artery treatment, 1st Therapeutic Plasma Exchange as well as our 1st Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair. We also welcomed our 1st Assistant Director of Nursing, Letty Sotelo. This was a BIG month for us.
I can’t begin to tell you how proud I am of our team. You have pulled together during some pretty ugly times and have continued to grow our hospital. I am approached all the time outside the hospital about what a great place this is and how “cared for” the patients feel. Thank you for all you do. I can’t wait to see where we can go and what we will do.

Certificates of Appreciation from District 93
District 93 instructors presented Education with certificates of appreciation for assisting with their Tech Wars. Eric coordinated with the schools to allow Chris and Dave to be judges for the EMT and CNA student competitions. We are so grateful we were given the opportunity to participate and build relationships with the local schools and students who will be coming through our facilities.
This is the article that was on East Idaho News about the event—featuring our very own Dave in one of the photos! https://www.eastidahonews.com/2021/03/tech-wars-brings-high-school-students-together-with-industry-professionals/
Meet our new Assistant Director of Nursing
Meet Letty Sotelo our new Assistant Director of Nursing. She has worked as a nurse for the past 9 years. She started at MVH as a CNA in 2010 and then worked her way up to an RN. After working medsurg for 7 years and managing Redicare, she went to work in the pediatric ICU where she fell in love with caring for children. She then was lucky enough to help start Just 4 Kids Urgent Care with Dr. Aaron Gardner. She enjoys spending time with her family outdoors: riding UTVs, camping and hiking (she is looking forward to her second trip to Havasupai Falls this fall). She brings a unique set of skills and will be instrumental in helping us grow our med/surg unit and start our pediatric service line. She adopted her 4 nephews two years ago and is raising them along with her other two children (one daughter and one son). Her youngest is 5 and is Deaf and they are actively learning sign language. Letty knows the importance of family at home and at work and is excited to be back with the IFCH and MVH family and get to work alongside some of the best in our community.
Helpful Info for the Intranet
Did you know you can access information about current best practices and medications by visiting the Pharmacy page on the Intranet?
Just click the “Medical Depts” dropdown from the Intranet and choose “Pharmacy,” and you will see the links as pictured above.
UpToDate is an excellent clinical resource with information on disease processes, skills, and much more. Lexicomp is a helpful drug library that can answer many of the questions medical professionals may have about the medications we give our patients.
Message from IT Security
What is ransomware?
Ransomware is a malware that stealthily gets installed in your PC or mobile device and holds your files or operating system functions for ransom. It restricts you from using your PC or mobile device, and from accessing your files (files are sometimes locked or encrypted), unless you pay the ransom (in exchange for file decryption). Learn more at microsoft.com.
According to Gartner Security, ransomware attacks on US healthcare organizations cost $20.8 billion in 2020.
You are the first line of defense against ransomware. You can make a difference by doing the following:
- Do not open email attachments or click on links from unknown senders.
- Beware of phishing attempts.
- Do not plug in an unknown thumb drive to your computer.
- Practice safe browsing by going to reliable and reputable websites.
